Wirral Online is an independent news and information site for the Wirral peninsula. We read the public record and publish what is in it, and we keep the everyday local information accurate.

The peninsula

West Kirby, Hoylake, Meols, Caldy, Thurstaston and Heswall along the Dee side; Birkenhead, Wallasey, New Brighton, Seacombe and Rock Ferry on the Mersey; Bebington, Bromborough, Port Sunlight and Eastham down the eastern edge; and Greasby, Upton, Moreton and Pensby through the middle. Around 330,000 people live here. Wealth varies a great deal from one end of the peninsula to the other, but unlike most boroughs of this size the name is not in dispute: everyone here says Wirral.

What we report

Wirral Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood and coastal warnings for the Mersey and the Dee estuary, and company filings in The Gazette. Some decisions affecting Wirral are taken at Liverpool City Region level rather than by the council, and we say which body a decision came from.

How we work

Named source on every fact, linked so you can read the original. Where a record is unclear we say it is unclear rather than filling in the gap. Plain British English throughout, no press releases printed as reporting, and no photographs taken from other outlets.

Tips and corrections

Email hello@wirralonline.co.uk with anything we should be looking at, an event worth listing, or a correction. Tips are treated in confidence, and corrections are made quickly and noted on the page.

Wirral Online is part of the GOB Media Group. We are independent of the council and of everyone else we cover.
